The story behind the door

Start up created with a simple solution to help people with dementia


We create decals using pictures of front doors where people have felt at home for use use in nursing homes.

Research by the Trimbos Institute confirms that, even for people in advanced stages of dementia, true doors support orientation, stimulate memories and improve quality of life.

We founded a separate organisation to bring this idea to fruition. Since 2014 we have conceived, designed and rolled out a series of highly effectively campaigns and established a successful social start up.

The idea

The central idea for true doors, personalised front doors, began life in 2007 during the final art school thesis of our creative director Marieke van Diepen.
